BEHIND THE GRAIN

How we work…

Each Wood & Water piece is made to order with care, intention, and craftsmanship. Here’s how we bring your vision to life:

We begin with a personal consultation to understand your vision, style, bathroom layout, and practical needs. Whether you’re after a freestanding bath or a matching timber vanity and basin, we’ll guide you through the possibilities to create something uniquely yours.

You’ll choose from a range of premium, sustainably sourced hardwoods — each with its own grain, tone, and character. We help you select the perfect
timber species to complement your design and ensure durability in a wet environment.

Your bath, vanity, or basin is carefully handcrafted in our workshop using traditional joinery techniques and precision tools. Every curve, joint, and contour is shaped with intention to create a seamless, sculptural finish.

We apply a high-grade, natural finish that protects your timber piece from moisture and enhances the wood’s natural beauty. Our waterproofing method ensures your bath or vanity is built to last — both in form and function.

Once complete, your custom piece is carefully packaged and delivered directly to you, ready for installation. We’ll walk you through care instructions so you can enjoy your timber feature for years to come.

Things you might be wondering about our timber baths…

Choosing a timber bath is an exciting decision, and it’s natural to have questions before getting started. Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common things our clients ask, covering everything from waterproofing and maintenance to timber options and custom details. If you don’t see your question here, just reach out. We’re always happy to help.

Yes, timber baths are waterproof, but not naturally. The wood itself isn’t inherently water-resistant, so special treatments and construction techniques are used to ensure durability. Wood & Water tubs are sealed with a multilayer waterproof coating that protects the timber from moisture. With proper care, these baths remain watertight and beautiful for years.

Cleaning a Timber Bath or Vanity

  1. Use Mild Soap & Soft Cloth
Clean the surface regularly with a soft cloth or sponge and mild, non-abrasive soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive scrubbers—they can damage the protective finish.
  2. Rinse & Dry After Use
After bathing or splashing water, rinse off any soap residue and wipe down the surface with a dry, soft towel to prevent water marks or prolonged moisture exposure.

Maintaining a Timber Bath or Vanity

  1. Avoid Harsh Cleaners
Avoid using harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners to prevent damage to the timber’s finish.
  2. Protect from Sunlight and Temperature
Protect timber from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes, as UV rays can break down protective coatings, leading to fading, cracking, and reduced water resistance, which may cause warping and damage over time.

You can use any wood to build a tub, provided it is properly seasoned and dried. The protective coating safeguards the wood from moisture, allowing for the use of various timber species. Commonly used woods include Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Tasmanian Oak, Tasmanian Blackwood, as well as American and European Oak, and Walnut.

All our tubs are custom-made to order. While common shapes include rectangular, oval, and round, you’re not limited to just these options. Let your creativity guide you, we’ll bring your vision to life. I’ve crafted everything from heart-shaped baby baths to large custom plunge pools, so no idea is too big or too unique.

The timeline can vary depending on the details of your order, but over the past year, the average lead time has been around 16 weeks. In most cases, freestanding tubs are one of the last elements installed, so the timing usually aligns well with the overall project schedule.

Yes, timber baths complement a wide range of styles, including rustic, modern, minimalist, and more. Their natural warmth and unique character make them a versatile choice for any bathroom aesthetic.

From initial ideas to final delivery, we work closely with you to create something timeless and tailored. Reach out and let’s begin designing your one-of-a-kind timber centrepiece.
